DARWINEUM - The Adventure Evolution

"The DARWINEUM at Rostock Zoo will unite history, human and animal under one roof", explained Zoo Director Udo Nagel on the occasion of the official launch on 11th May 2010 in Rostock. "It will offer a unique combination of a vivid zoological collection and museum exhibitions."

The planning for this interesting edutainment project which has been projected on a surface of 11,000 sqm, has already begun. The engineering consortium INROS LACKNER AG together with Rasbach Architekten and the engineering office Jochen Döhler will be responsible for the structural design and the site management. ATELIER BRÜCKNER, Stuttgart, will be responsible for the concept and implementation of the exhibition. The DARWINEUM is a joint project of the Rostock Zoological Garden, the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt and the University of Rostock. This flagship project is primarily being financed by the European Funds for Regional Development (EFRD). The city's own share is composed of donations of more than one million euros and a 2.9 million euro credit granted to the zoo.

On our website we will regularly inform you about latest developments in this fascinating project which, as from 2012, will not only provide a new and species-appropriate home for the great apes, but also offer to the visitors a virtual time travel through the evolutionary history of man.
