Opening of the Elster river mill race in Leipzig / Germany

On 31st August 2010, the second section of the Elster river mill race has officially been opened by Mr. Burkhard Jung, Lord Mayor of the City of Leipzig. The outer jetty, length 78 m, of the future city port not only provides a berth for rowboats, canoes and motorboats, but also for the so-called Leipzig boats (i.e. particularly designed boats with low draught and low-emission propulsion, thus reducing wave formation, that are ecologically compatible with the characteristics of the Leipzig waterways). INROS LACKNER AG has been charged with the structural design of all three sections of the Elster river mill race project. The opening of the Elster river mill race for water sports enthusiasts now offers the possibility to explore the city centre from the water. For the third section, it has been projected to establish a direct boat connection between Lake Cospuden and the city centre.
